Do you treat male infertility?
Male infertility is much more prevalent than previously supposed being present in up to half of all infertile couples. This makes the semen analysis a critical fertility test and treatment of the female cannot begin until it has been performed.
There are many potential causes of male infertility including hormonal deficiencies, varicoceles, failed ejaculation and more.
If the cause of a man's infertility is hormonal, then Dr. Shaykh often prescribes treatments. Male infertility can also be "treated" by using intracytoplasmic sperm injection in an IVF cycle. The sperm are withdrawn from the ejaculate, or if none are present, from the male reproductive tract. As long as one sperm can be isolated, IVF can be successful.
If a man is suffering from a varicocele
(varicose veins in the spermatic cord" or other "mechanical" problems such as failed ejaculation, Dr. Shaykh refers the patient to a urologist with special training in infertility.
